Earlier this year, the Social Dynamics and Environmental Change Lab headed to the coast just south of Sydney for a writing retreat. Nestled in a beautiful spot by the sea, the few days away provided the perfect setting for focused writing and meaningful team connection.
The retreat was genuinely productive — plenty of writing got done — but some of the most valuable moments happened away from the computer. Stepping out of the usual routine gave everyone space to think, reconnect, and recharge. A career development session sparked rich conversation about where everyone is headed, and a sunset cheese board on the beach wasn’t a bad way to end the day either.

We are grateful to work in a beautiful part of the world with such a talented and dedicated group, and moments like these are a good reminder of why investing in people is just as important as the research itself. We are already looking forward to the next one!
